Lifting magnets are self-contained magnets which use permanent magnets that maintain holding power indefinitely. Within the steel housing are powerful ceramic magnets whose field is controlled by the "on-off" position of the handle. Because no electric power is required, they can operate completely free of the restriction of power cords, and can be used where electric power is not readily available. Permanent lifting magnets require a good surface condition to achieve maximum lift. They are especially valuable for in-plant moving, loading and unloading machine tools, and are found in industrial plant, machine shops and warehouses. When a greater holding capacity is required a battery magnet or a circular electric magnet can be used.

The maximum rated lift that a magnet can lift is always based on having a clean, smooth, flat, low-carbon steel plate with the full area of the magnet’s lifting surface in contact with the load. Lifting magnets are used in steel supply companies, machine and die shops where heavy steel objects must be moved quickly and safely.
Depending on the type of magnet and shape of the item being lifted, a magnet weighing 22 lbs. can lift (when it is attached to a flat surface) can lift 550 lbs. and to a round surface approximately 275 lbs. A magnet weighing 198 lbs. can lift (again when attached to a flat surface) 4,400 lbs. and to a round surface up to 2,200 lbs.
An eyebolt is provided for attachment to an overhead cam or hoist. To use, simply attach the magnet to the desired ferrous object, (that is wide enough to incorporate the cam assembly), and begin lifting.
